Fremont teen stabs brother in neck with scissors [The Argus, Fremont, Calif.]
July 26--FREMONT -- A 10-year-old boy was recovering Monday after his 15-year-old brother stabbed him in the neck with a pair of scissors because voices in his head told him to do so, according to police.
The boy suffered a gash to his neck Friday morning as the brothers and two siblings -- a 12-year-old girl and a 7-year-old boy -- were having a camp out in the living room of the family's home near Marshall Park, Sgt. Chris Mazzone said.
The victim was treated at a hospital for the injury, which was not life-threatening.
The teenager suffered a minor cut to his hand from handling the scissors.
None of the other children was injured.
When questioned by police, the teenager initially denied attacking the 10-year-old, but later confessed. He stated that he'd been angry for much of the last week and voices in his head told him to harm his brother, the sergeant said.
The attack happened about 8 a.m. as the four children in the home were waking from their slumber.
The older boy grabbed scissors, held his brother's head down with one hand and then stabbed him in the neck with the other hand, the sergeant said.
The parents were asleep when the attack happened; they were awaken by screams from the 10-year-old, police said.
Officers arrested the boy on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and booked him into juvenile hall.
The teenager underwent a psychiatric evaluation, but the results of the
testing was not known to police.
